Thornhill Farm

Having worked in the oil & gas industry as an HR professional for 25 years I wanted to do something purposeful. I bought Thornhill 10 years ago, which sits within a conservation area, and immediately felt a strong connection to the nature all around us.

As a huge horse lover, I soon got to work creating a mini farm while breeding Fallabella horses. My children’s friends would often visit, and I could see how much joy and happiness they felt by spending time with our little furry animals.

I wanted to share this joy with members of our local community, so I invited them to spend time outside in our fabulous countryside, learn about the animals and understand their needs.

The power of animal therapy

Miniland was then founded initially as a petting farm. I organised children’s parties and visits for community groups to get up close and personal with the animals. I was also approached by a local special needs school, Stepping Stones and asked to run a weekly animal experience for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their supporting teachers. Through this I saw the power of animal therapy which led to the creation of Miniland Therapeutics CIC. I am extremely proud to say we have some of the most passionate people working with us, supporting SEND children and young adults to be the best that they can be. The team not only continues to inspire me to do better but creating Miniland is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. To see a child develop, however small the change, is priceless.
