Our curriculum

Reigniting a love for learning across a range of subjects

Miniland Farm Alternative Provision

For many young people who join us at Miniland Farm, their previous experiences of learning have been negatively impacted by a wide range of academic and emotional barriers. As a result, our curriculum reignites a love for learning across a range of subject areas whilst being fundamentally underpinned by valuable skills for life beyond school. This includes a focus on animal care and social and emotional skills.

The content of the curriculum is guided by students interests, meeting the individual needs of each student.   We also offer a broad range of complimentary subjects which aim to establish enthusiasm and a passion for learning. Including: animal care, cookery club, woodwork, gardening and horticulture, walking club, bushcraft, VR simulator sessions, art and craft and IT. We also support the development of English and Maths through practical activities, research projects and ASDAN and ASCENTIS courses.

We support students to extend their learning, social and independence skills at a level and pace that suits their individual needs and prepares them for the next steps in their education.

Enrichment and projects

As well as offering courses in animal care at differing levels,
there are many activities to learn alongside the animals, whether
its animal welfare and feeding, mucking out or creating enrichment
projects for the animals.

Activities also include:

• Designing and building wooden huts and runs for smaller animals

• Helping to build animal encounter areas such as ponds

• Grooming, tacking up and going for a lead rein hack on the local common

• Preparing winter bird feeds

• Walking club: exploring the local area with nature walks

• Collecting eggs and lots more!

AQA Unit Award Scheme

At Miniland Farm we are proud to be an AQA centre participating in their Unit Award Scheme. "The Unit Award Scheme (UAS) allows all students to engage with learning and have their achievements formally recognised. Learners are rewarded with a certificate each time they successfully complete a unit of learning. They can build up a portfolio of certificates to evidence their skills, knowledge and experience. The scheme boosts confidence, increases engagement and improves motivation, helping learners to make progress on their lifelong learning journey.
